Coaching is all about helping others see their light, guide the path and support their change…. AND THEN THE CONTRACT IS OVER…. Is it good bye or just au revoir?

We stay with our clients throughout their metamorphosis.  But unlike a butterfly who emerges from the caterpillar and can NEVER become a caterpillar again - our clients do not have nature on their side.  Relapse to old behaviors is common and without support - clients could fall back into old behaviors.    Do we, as coaches have an obligation to check in with our clients at intervals after the engagement is over?  Should we build it into the contract?

In this Cutting Edge Conversation, we will discuss the three areas that lead to behavioral relapse. Our conversation will include how we, through our coaching, can help our clients "manage their forgetting curve" once the contract is over. Participants are encouraged to share their best practices  and experiences.

Debbie Laxer, MBA, SPHR has been involved in academic and corporate education for over 25 years.  Debbie recently graduated with her Business Coaching Certificate through NC State and expects to become ICF certified in the Fall of 2016.

Debbie spent the first 12 years of her career on faculty at Concordia University, where she taught in the School of Business and in the Executive MBA program.  Courses included Organizational Behavior, Organizational Theory and Human Resources.

While teaching at Concordia University, Debbie was recruited to train managers in the field of Human Resources.  Through the Institute of Canadian Bankers, Debbie delivered week long executive development programs in Human Resources. Her reputation resulted in her being asked by the American Banking Association to teach similar content to their EMBA students during the summers in Madison WI.

Upon moving to North Carolina in 1995, Debbie has, through her company Laxer and Associates, consulted, trained and coached in many local and national companies.

Currently, Debbie’s focus is on coaching for maintaining change.

Debbie pairs her focus with her passion for the transfer of learning through training.  Debbie embeds relapse prevention techniques into her training and serves as a post-training relapse prevention coach for managers.  “It is all about “managing the forgetting curve” Laxer says.

Laxer has an intuitive ability to assess client’s needs quickly, develop content to bridge the gaps and provides profound coaching experiences which result in solidifying changed behavior.
